Málaga is the capital of the Costa del Sol and is also the fifth largest city in Spain with almost 600.000 inhabitants. The city is practically in the middle of the Costa del Sol between the western and eastern Costa del Sol. Málaga is not a tourist resort in the sense that it has many hotel places to offer tourists, but it is undeniably the city that most people visit at some point, mainly because it is the only large city on the coast with what it means in terms of various offers, such as the department store El Corte Inglés. In the 20th century, the city flourished thanks to industrial development in the iron and steel sector and in the textile industry. The Guadalmedina River divides the city into two parts. The city, constructed in recent times, is located on the right side of the river, while the historic center and the old town are on the left side. Along with the port and shipbuilding area, Málaga is supplied by the iron, steel and metal industries. A further part of Málaga's industry comes from the food industry through the vineyards that surround it and produce high quality wine. On October 25, 1881, the internationally most famous person from Malaga, Pablo Picasso, was born. He moved to Barcelona at a very young age and at 19 he moved to France for good. This is why he is also known in history books as "the Spanish-French artist". The great Picasso Museum, which opened in 2003, is one of Spain's biggest tourist attractions. It took a long time for Malaga to get its second world star, Juan Antonio Domingez, who is very much of the present. He eventually moved to Madrid and then to the United States. His wife is actress Melanie Griffith and the famous Malagasy has changed his name over the years to Antonio Banderas. He is one of the big superstars in Hollywood. Read more about Malaga
