Public holidays in Spain are known to be both numerous and varied, making it difficult to keep track of them.
Unlike many other countries, where national holidays are common to the whole country, Spain has a system where many holidays are local and may differ from region to region, or even between different towns or villages.

This means that in a particular village it may be an official holiday, while just a few kilometers away in a neighbouring village it is a regular working day. This can lead to confusion for locals and tourists alike, as a public holiday in one place does not necessarily mean the same in another.
